Updated 25 October 2026. Micron (NASDAQ: MU) closed at $877.55 on Friday 23 October, up 2.46 percent after Thursday’s 6.3 percent drop, and traded $879.90 after hours (StockAnalysis). Two events this week come before any Micron number: on Tuesday 27 October the company and its Taoyuan union meet at Taoyuan City Government after nearly 70 percent of members voted down the latest profit-sharing offer, and at 9 am Seoul time on Wednesday, 8 pm Tuesday in New York, SK hynix reports a quarter the Street expects to be its sixth straight record (CNA, SK hynix). Seagate reports on Tuesday, the Fed decides on Wednesday and Samsung reports on Thursday. Verdict: Friday’s bounce came on half the usual volume, which is dip-buying rather than conviction; this week the memory-pricing debate gets its first hard numbers from Seoul while the Taoyuan dispute either produces a deal or a strike date. Reference levels: $800 below, $950 above.
Key facts
- Price: MU $877.55 at Friday’s close, up $21.06 from $856.49, after an intraday high of $891.89; $879.90 after hours at 7:59 pm ET (StockAnalysis). Volume was 21.1 million shares against a 40.7 million average. Market value about $993 billion; 52-week range $192.59-$1,255.00. Wednesday’s close, before the selloff, was $913.67.
- Tuesday’s talks: the session at Taoyuan City Government was postponed from Friday to 27 October because Typhoon Champi closed offices in Taoyuan (CNA). The union says 1,633 members, close to 70 percent of the membership, voted against Micron’s plan and that it will keep pressing for a fixed profit-sharing mechanism (CNA, Liberty Times, 23 October; Digitimes). A 24-hour warning strike led by union officers ended on the morning of 23 October, the first strike in Taiwan’s semiconductor industry (Digitimes).
- The positions: the Taoyuan and Taichung unions want 15 percent of Micron’s operating profit distributed as quarterly bonuses, in line with Samsung and SK hynix practice (Taiwan News). Micron Taiwan’s chairman said the company has agreed to a global quarterly bonus from fiscal 2027, has raised Taiwan pension contributions and shift allowances, and will keep talking on 27 October (CNA). The Taichung union signed an agreement with Micron on 21 October (Focus Taiwan). Micron says it remains “committed to listening to our team members and engaging with our unions in good faith” (Taiwan News).
- The legal position: the Taoyuan union won strike authorisation on 7 October with 1,994 of 2,012 votes cast, about 88 percent of all members on an 89 percent turnout; it says Micron employs about 3,000 people in Taoyuan, close to 80 percent of them members (Taiwan News). Taiwanese law requires one round of mediation and a majority of all members before a strike can be called (Focus Taiwan). No strike date has been set beyond the 23 October warning action.
- SK hynix: results before 9 am on Wednesday 28 October Seoul time with a Korean-English conference call at 9 am (SK hynix Newsroom invitation). FnGuide consensus is operating profit of 76.96 trillion won on revenue of 98.23 trillion won, a sixth consecutive record; Bernstein notes that consensus is 5.6 percent below the 81.51 trillion won expected three months ago (MoneyToday, BigGo Finance). Meritz Securities models 80.06 trillion won, split 63 trillion won DRAM and 17 trillion won NAND (Seoul Economic Daily). Counterpoint has SK hynix’s HBM share falling to 50 percent from 58 percent while Samsung’s rose to 33 percent.
- The customer’s view: Nvidia’s August earnings call flagged memory costs rising faster than it had expected, and management guided to a gross-margin trough in its fiscal fourth quarter after reporting 75.0 percent (Trefis, 19 October). Western Digital made the same complaint about DRAM and NAND input costs on Wednesday and fell about 9 percent in two sessions. Both are Micron’s pricing power seen from the buyer’s side.
- Peers on Friday: Sandisk slipped a further 1.82 percent to $1,238.03 and Western Digital 2.97 percent to $343.67, so DRAM bounced while NAND and storage did not (StockAnalysis). Sandisk reports on Thursday; Seagate on Tuesday; Samsung’s full third quarter on Thursday (Yardeni Research).
- Analysts: StockAnalysis shows a Strong Buy consensus from 49 analysts with an average target of $1,560.57; Finbold counts 45 of 49 at Buy with an average near $1,606 and a range from $361 to $3,000. Recent moves: Wedbush’s Matt Bryson kept a Buy and $1,400 on 23 October; Rosenblatt kept a Buy and $1,900 and Needham’s Quinn Bolton $1,650 on 22 October; D.A. Davidson’s Gil Luria raised to $3,000 on 7 October, the Street high (Google Finance, Yahoo Finance). The lone Sell carries a $621 target.
- Insiders: president and chief technology and products officer Scott DeBoer sold 28,545 shares at $900 on 16 October, about $25.7 million; insiders sold $78.5 million of stock in the last 90 days (MarketBeat).
Tuesday in Taoyuan, Tuesday night in Seoul
The two events are the same argument from opposite ends. The Taoyuan union’s case is that Micron is earning record profits and should share 15 percent of them quarterly, as the Korean memory makers do; Micron’s answer is a global quarterly bonus from fiscal 2027 plus higher pension and shift payments, which 70 percent of the membership has rejected as a one-off rather than a mechanism. Saturday’s page set out the arithmetic; what matters this week is the sequence. A deal on Tuesday removes the only Micron-specific operational risk on the calendar. No deal and no date keeps the overhang but changes nothing. A strike date is the outcome the market has not priced, because Taoyuan is a DRAM back-end site and the first semiconductor strike in Taiwan’s history already happened on Thursday.
Hours later SK hynix tells the market how much profit there is to argue over. The consensus of 76.96 trillion won is a record and also a number that has come down 5.6 percent in three months, so the bar is lower than the headline suggests. The read-through for Micron is less the profit than the language: fourth-quarter DRAM contract pricing, HBM4 volumes for Nvidia’s Vera Rubin platform, and whether the Counterpoint share loss to Samsung shows up in guidance. The KOSPI page showed on Thursday how quickly the Korean memory complex reverses on a US equipment print; a Seoul print that reverses the other way is Micron’s best setup for Wednesday’s open.
What Friday’s bounce did and did not prove
MU recovered $21 on Friday on 21 million shares, about half its average, after losing $57 on Thursday. That is the shape of a market buying the dip in the name with the strongest DRAM story, not a market reversing its view of the cycle, and the NAND names did not bounce with it. Friday’s page covered the vote; the stock’s behaviour since says the union is a second-order concern next to the pricing debate. The Sandisk page covers the NAND side of that debate, where the same Western Digital cost complaint is read as revenue. Wednesday’s Fed matters for the multiple: memory was the group that fell hardest in Thursday’s rate-driven AI selloff, and a hawkish December signal with the 10-year at 5 percent would do it again regardless of what Seoul reports.
Micron this week: bull, base and bear
| Scenario | MU | What has to happen | Anchor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bear | $800 | Taoyuan talks end with a strike date, SK hynix misses the 76.96 trillion won consensus or softens its pricing outlook, and the Fed signals December on Wednesday. | About 8.8 percent below Friday’s $877.55, under Thursday’s $856.49 close and TradingKey’s downside risk level after the selloff; above the 52-week low. |
| Base | $840-$920 | Talks continue without a deal or a date, SK hynix lands near consensus, and the stock trades the sector tape into Samsung on Thursday. | Thursday’s low to Friday’s high, extended to Wednesday’s $913.67 close. |
| Bull | $950 | A Taoyuan agreement on Tuesday, SK hynix beats with Meritz’s 80 trillion won and talks up 2027 contract pricing, and Samsung’s memory margin confirms it on Thursday. | About 8.3 percent above Friday’s close and through the $913.67 level the selloff started from; below Wedbush’s $1,400, now the lowest recent bank target. |
The bear case sits below Friday’s price. These are reference levels measured from the verified quotes, not forecasts.
