BingX EU has secured authorization as a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) from Austria’s Financial Market Authority (FMA), positioning the cryptocurrency exchange to expand regulated operations across 29 European Economic Area countries.
The approval was issued on October 13, 2026, to MEGE zweite GmbH, the Vienna-based entity operating as BingX EU, and announced publicly on October 14.
The authorization falls under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), which establishes common licensing, operational and investor protection requirements for cryptocurrency businesses.
BingX EU said the license will support its European expansion through regulatory passporting arrangements, allowing authorized services to be offered across participating jurisdictions without obtaining separate full licenses in each country.
However, the company has not disclosed a commercial launch date, and cross-border operations remain subject to applicable notification procedures.
Austrian Authorization Covers Four Crypto Services
The FMA authorization permits BingX EU to provide four categories of cryptocurrency services: custody and administration of clients’ digital assets, exchange between cryptocurrencies and fiat money, crypto-to-crypto exchange, and cryptocurrency transfer services on behalf of clients.
These permissions provide a foundation for operating a regulated cryptocurrency brokerage and exchange business within the EEA.
They do not automatically authorize every product available through BingX’s global platform, particularly derivatives that may fall under separate financial services legislation. BingX initially disclosed its Austrian licensing application on June 16, 2026, describing the process as advanced but emphasizing that approval had not yet been granted.
The October authorization therefore marks the completion of that application process. The company operates globally and says it serves more than 40 million users, although its European customer base and expected initial trading volumes have not been disclosed.
BingX EU CEO Daniel Lai said the authorization would enable the company to develop its services within a clearer regulatory framework. The company has not yet specified which cryptocurrencies, payment methods or trading features will be available when its European operations begin.
MiCA Licensing Reshapes European Crypto Competition
The approval arrives after the EU’s final MiCA transitional arrangements expired on July 1, 2026. Under the regulation, crypto-asset service providers generally require authorization from a competent national authority before offering covered services within the bloc.
Once authorized, companies can use MiCA’s passporting mechanism to extend permitted activities across other EEA jurisdictions, subject to required notifications. The framework introduces requirements covering governance, safeguarding of customer assets, operational resilience, disclosures and compliance controls.
Austria has emerged as an important licensing jurisdiction, with cryptocurrency businesses including Bybit and Bitpanda establishing regulated operations under its supervision. For BingX, the authorization removes a significant regulatory obstacle to entering European markets, although the company must still complete operational preparations before onboarding customers.
The development also illustrates how cryptocurrency exchanges are restructuring their European businesses around locally incorporated, supervised entities rather than relying solely on offshore platforms.
Competition among licensed providers is expected to focus increasingly on product availability, fees, liquidity, institutional services and regulatory compliance. Nevertheless, licensing alone does not guarantee market access for every product or immediate availability across all intended countries. BingX EU’s next milestones will include completing passporting arrangements, publishing its supported services and announcing when European customers can begin trading.
The authorization represents a significant expansion opportunity, but its commercial impact will depend on execution and customer adoption.
