Prediction market operator Polymarket has introduced five-minute cryptocurrency price contracts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP on its US application, expanding its offering of short-duration financial event markets.
The launch, announced on October 27, 2026, allows eligible users to trade on whether each cryptocurrency’s price will finish higher or lower over a five-minute period. The contracts offer two outcomes, Up and Down, with winning positions settling at $1 per contract and losing positions expiring without a payout.
Polymarket’s US platform uses pricing data from CF Benchmarks to determine outcomes, with ties resolved in favor of Up. Taker fees are charged separately from the bid-ask spread, adding a transaction cost that traders must consider when evaluating potential returns.
The expansion follows Polymarket’s introduction of longer-duration cryptocurrency contracts earlier in October and places the company in more direct competition with Kalshi’s short-term crypto markets.
Five-Minute Contracts Expand Short-Term Trading
The new contracts cover BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP, four of the largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. Each market evaluates price direction over a fixed five-minute interval rather than requiring traders to predict a particular price target or percentage movement.
A correct prediction pays $1 per contract at settlement, while the purchase price determines the trader’s potential profit or loss. For example, a contract purchased for $0.60 would return $1 if successful, producing $0.40 in gross profit before applicable fees.
The same position would lose its $0.60 purchase cost if the predicted outcome failed.
With 12 five-minute intervals per hour, the format allows up to 288 separate settlement windows per asset each day. That frequency increases the number of trading opportunities but also makes execution costs, spreads and liquidity particularly important.
The US contracts use CF Benchmarks pricing, distinguishing their settlement arrangements from Polymarket’s international cryptocurrency markets. Polymarket’s international platform has employed Chainlink-based time-weighted average prices for short-duration contracts following concerns about manipulation around settlement.
The company previously introduced five-minute Bitcoin markets internationally in February 2026 and subsequently expanded its cryptocurrency offerings. On October 15, Polymarket US added 15-minute, hourly and daily markets for Ethereum, Solana and XRP.
The latest launch therefore represents an expansion of the US product lineup rather than the first appearance of five-minute cryptocurrency markets anywhere on Polymarket.
US Expansion Intensifies Competition With Kalshi
Polymarket’s domestic expansion follows its acquisition of QCX, a US derivatives exchange and clearing infrastructure provider, in a transaction announced in July 2025. The acquisition provided a regulated route back into the American market after Polymarket previously agreed to restrict US access following enforcement action by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
In January 2022, the CFTC ordered Polymarket to pay a $1.4 million civil penalty for operating an unregistered derivatives trading facility. The company’s US application now operates separately from its international platform through CFTC-regulated infrastructure.
However, federal oversight does not eliminate every regulatory question surrounding event contracts. Prediction market operators continue facing disputes over state gambling laws, particularly for contracts involving sporting events.
Kalshi, meanwhile, has established a competing market for short-duration cryptocurrency price predictions, including 15-minute contracts. Polymarket’s five-minute offering reduces the trading horizon further, potentially appealing to participants seeking exposure to immediate price movements.
Nevertheless, shorter contracts can amplify the effects of fees, spreads, delayed execution and differences between market prices and settlement benchmarks. A trader may correctly anticipate a movement in an exchange’s spot price without necessarily predicting the outcome under the contract’s specified reference methodology.
Polymarket has not disclosed initial trading volume, active user figures or revenue projections for the new US contracts. The commercial significance of the launch will therefore depend on whether the markets attract sustained liquidity and participation.
For the broader prediction market industry, the expansion demonstrates how regulated event-contract platforms are increasingly competing with conventional trading products for cryptocurrency-focused customers.
