MXNB custody across six blockchains and Bitso listings for USDPT and USAT bring dollar and peso tokens into one platform environment.
Connecting peso and dollar tokens
The release describes the US-Mexico corridor as one of the world’s largest cross-border payment routes, moving tens of billions of dollars a year. It says 15% of that volume already flows through Bitso’s infrastructure, with the remainder still relying in part on correspondent banks, wire transfers and cash pickup networks. The company argues that stablecoins can provide faster settlement, round-the-clock transfers and transaction traceability. Those are potential advantages of blockchain-based payments, but the announcement does not provide comparative fees, settlement times or a breakdown of Bitso’s 15% figure.
On the peso side, Anchorage Digital Bank is custodying MXNB across six blockchains. That multi-chain coverage matters because digital-asset liquidity and settlement can be distributed across networks. A firm using one chain may not be able to access the same counterparties or liquidity as a firm using another. Anchorage says clients can store and access MXNB across the supported networks according to their needs. The wording in the announcement does not specify whether every chain offers identical functionality or liquidity.
On the dollar side, Bitso users in Mexico can buy and sell USDPT with pesos directly in the app. Western Union agents with Bitso Business accounts can convert USDPT into other supported currencies, according to the release. USAT is also listed. The two tokens add dollar-denominated options to Bitso’s platform alongside MXNB, creating a setting in which users and businesses can move between peso and dollar stablecoins within a digital-asset service.
Custody is a central part of the proposition
Anchorage chief executive and co-founder Nathan McCauley said custodying MXNB across six chains and supporting USDPT and USAT on Bitso places the bank on both sides of the flow. His comments reflect the company’s position that regulated custody can be a starting point for issuers and financial institutions evaluating the corridor. That is a company claim; the announcement does not establish that every participant in the corridor must use Anchorage or that Anchorage controls the payment route end to end.
Bitso’s head of stablecoin, Ben Reid, said customers need trust when moving dollars and pesos onchain and described the supported tokens as GENIUS-compliant. The release does not provide additional detail on the legal basis for that description, the reserve arrangements for each token, redemption conditions or the regulatory status of each service in every jurisdiction. Institutional and retail users will need to review the applicable issuer disclosures, custody terms and local rules before using the products.
Stablecoin transfers can move quickly on a blockchain, but the complete payment experience depends on more than the token transfer. Users need reliable conversion between fiat and digital assets, liquidity at both ends, controls for mistaken or fraudulent transfers, and a route to redeem or spend the token. Local access, fees, exchange rates and operating hours can still shape whether a stablecoin is useful for a remittance or business payment. The announcement describes a broader on-platform offering but does not publish those conditions.
Scale depends on adoption and practical access
The companies present the expanded partnership as a step toward making digital settlement more available to banks, issuers and payment companies. That infrastructure could be useful to businesses that need to move value between Mexico and the United States outside conventional banking hours. Yet the release does not identify a new remittance product, promise a specific reduction in costs or give a target for transaction volume. The corridor’s existing scale offers a potential market; it is not evidence that stablecoins will replace current payment channels.
For Anchorage, the partnership increases the range of assets held within its custody environment and reinforces its institutional-bank positioning. For Bitso, the addition of USDPT and USAT broadens the stablecoin choices available to customers while MXNB extends the peso side across several blockchains. Western Union’s role adds a payments company to the arrangement, while Tether provides the issuer relationship for USAT. Each participant contributes a different function to the overall structure. FinanceFeeds recently covered Anchorage’s direct stablecoin minting and redemption partnership with Securitize, another effort to connect bank-issued digital dollars with institutional workflows.
The announcement also raises questions that will matter as the market develops: how users move between tokens and local currency, which networks carry the most activity, how redemptions are handled, and what protections apply if a platform or intermediary is unavailable. Those details are not set out in the release. The clearest near-term change is that Bitso users can access the two named dollar tokens and Anchorage custody now supports MXNB across six specified networks.
For customers, the practical convenience will be measured at the points where money enters and exits the system. A token may be available on several chains, but users still need a clear way to acquire it, transfer it and redeem it into local currency. Those steps will determine whether the expanded custody and listings become a payment rail or remain primarily a trading feature.
Takeaway
Anchorage and Bitso are linking peso and dollar stablecoins through custody and platform access. The expansion could support more onchain activity in the US-Mexico corridor, but adoption will depend on liquidity, conversion, redemption and the terms governing each token.
