The comfortable reading is that Friday’s gain priced a fourth US carrier. That reading is wrong. SpaceX closed Friday, 23 October 2026, at $147.49, up $2.74, or 1.89 percent, from Thursday’s $144.75. Ten sessions through 6 November, on the last 90 daily log-returns, put a bull at $178.37, a base at $142.44 and a bear at $122.60. The base sits $5.05 under that close because the mean of those returns is negative.
What the coverage skips is the calendar, and a collision. A path through 31 December, 47 sessions, prints a bull of $203.91. That is $0.91 from a bull already printed on an English FinanceFeeds title, so it is not this title. The 80,000-site figure is also not in the 20 October call. Bloomberg, as carried by Yahoo, says the talks are private. SpaceX did not immediately respond.
Key facts
- Nasdaq official close, Friday 23 October 2026: $147.49, up $2.74, or 1.89 percent, from Thursday’s $144.75. Low $144.085. High $149.75. Volume 110,617,500. Nasdaq historical file, downloaded 25 October 2026. The info page stamps this sale as 22 October. The historical row dates it 23 October, and that row is the spot.
- Same file: 20-day average $155.02, so the close is $7.53, or 4.86 percent, under it. 50-day average $149.24, so the close is $1.75, or 1.17 percent, under it. Prior five sessions, 16 to 22 October: intraday low $142.95, intraday high $166.18.
- Yahoo, carrying Bloomberg, timestamped 12:31 a.m. Moscow on Friday 23 October, which is 5:31 p.m. Eastern on Thursday: SpaceX aims to secure a minimum of 80,000 US cell sites and is in talks with at least one tower company, including Crown Castle. The value could reach into the billions. SpaceX did not immediately respond. Kelcee Griffis, Bloomberg via Yahoo.
- Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer, on the Tuesday 20 October call: “We surpassed 22 million monthly users on Starlink Mobile as of the end of the quarter, up 37% quarter over quarter.” Service is aimed at early 2028. The transcript does not say 80,000. Call transcript.
- Nasdaq files, same download, Friday: AT&T $20.93, down 7.96 percent. T-Mobile $146.54, down 7.71 percent. Verizon $44.66, down 1.19 percent. Crown Castle $85.97, up 9.06 percent. American Tower $188.97, up 4.08 percent. SBA Communications $184.75, up 3.57 percent.
- StockAnalysis, fetched 25 October, 38 analysts polled by S&P Global: consensus Buy, average target $257.49, median $245, low $70, high $800. The 74.58 percent upside matches $147.49. Those are one-year marks, not this pair. Forecast page.
- House path from the $147.49 close, not a broker target: bull $178.37, base $142.44, bear $122.60. N is 10, through Friday 6 November. Mean log-return -0.0034835192. Sample standard deviation 0.0474219710. The unused 47-session set is bull $203.91, base $125.22, bear $90.46.
- Listing close, 12 June 2026: $160.95. The file has 93 closes and 92 log-returns. The last 90 are used. High close $201.80 on 16 June. Low close $108.27 on 5 August. Intraday range in the file: $104.83 to $225.64.
What just happened, and why the obvious reading is wrong
Two sessions are being read as one. Wednesday closed at $159.31, up 7.79 percent from Tuesday’s $147.79, the session after the call. Thursday closed at $144.75, down $14.56, or 9.14 percent. Friday’s $147.49 took back $2.74 of that drop, or 18.8 percent of it. The closes used here are Friday’s completed prints. A premarket or after-hours print is not the spot.
The cell-site headline does not belong to Thursday’s close. Yahoo timestamps the Bloomberg piece at 12:31 a.m. Moscow on Friday, 5:31 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, after the 4:00 p.m. cash close. Friday is the first official bar after that timestamp. It is up 1.89 percent and still $11.82, or 7.42 percent, under Wednesday’s $159.31.
The call and the report are not the same document. Shotwell said Starlink Mobile had surpassed 22 million monthly users, up 37 percent, and that the near-term job is to fly the mobile V2 constellation through next year and turn service on in early 2028. Elon Musk, chief executive, said the company will build out its terrestrial network. Neither sentence contains a site count. A search of the transcript for 80,000 and for “cell site” returns nothing.
Bloomberg, via Yahoo, says the people asked not to be identified because the discussions are private, names Crown Castle as one company in the talks, and says American Tower declined to comment. SpaceX and Vertical Bridge did not immediately respond. Simone Cortesi posted the same limit on Saturday: “Nothing is signed and no company has confirmed the talks.” The status is the source of that sentence.
Who is exposed
The carriers lease the sites. They do not, on this report, sell them. AT&T fell 7.96 percent and T-Mobile 7.71 percent. Verizon fell 1.19 percent. The landlords moved the other way: Crown Castle up 9.06 percent, American Tower up 4.08 percent, and SBA Communications, which the Bloomberg text did not name, up 3.57 percent.
TeslaNorth, on 22 October, put Crown Castle at about 40,000 US towers, American Tower at about 42,000 US sites and Vertical Bridge at about 18,000, against 158,500 purpose-built US towers last year as reported from the Wireless Infrastructure Association. On that count, 80,000 sites are about half the stock, and more than any one portfolio. TeslaNorth is the page. Those counts are not in the Yahoo text.
Holders are exposed to the gap between Wednesday’s $159.31 and Friday’s $147.49, not to a new revenue line. The third-quarter figure of $14.6 billion, up 161 percent, is already in the exhibit note and the session after the call. The 22 million mobile users are on other carriers’ networks, not a SpaceX-owned US carrier.
The separate fortune arithmetic is a different article. Friday’s net-worth pass is here. Those wealth figures are not $178.37 or $122.60, and this piece does not retire that page.
What the tape and the call actually show
The chart is the Nasdaq official daily close from the 12 June 2026 listing through Friday’s $147.49. There are no earlier bars. The top panel includes the daily lows, so the 3 August low of $104.83 and the 16 June high of $225.64 both fit. The 20-day and 50-day averages are on that panel. The bottom panel is the same window with the ten-session bull, base and bear.
The close is $7.53 under the 20-day average of $155.02 and $1.75 under the 50-day average of $149.24. Both sit overhead, and the 50-day is the nearer. The close is $18.69 under the prior five-session high of $166.18 and $4.54 above the prior five-session low of $142.95.
The largest log-return in the 90 is 22 June, from $185.00 to $154.60, down 16.43 percent. It stayed in. It is about 15.5 percent of the squared deviations, and dropping it would cut sigma only from 0.04742 to about 0.04380. Thursday’s 9.14 percent drop, the fourth largest move in the window, was kept as well. Only the two returns before the 16 June close sit outside the 90.
| Reading | Figure | What it is, and what it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Official close | $147.49 on 23 October | Formula spot. Up 1.89 percent. |
| Prior close | $144.75 on 22 October | Down 9.14 percent. Before the Bloomberg timestamp. |
| Call session | $159.31 on 21 October | Up 7.79 percent. Earnings reaction, not the cell-site bar. |
| Carrier tape | AT&T down 7.96 percent, T-Mobile down 7.71 percent, Verizon down 1.19 percent | Friday Nasdaq closes. Not even. |
| Tower tape | Crown Castle up 9.06 percent, American Tower up 4.08 percent, SBA up 3.57 percent | Friday Nasdaq closes. Not a signed lease. |
| Call, not the report | 22 million users, up 37 percent. Service in early 2028. | Shotwell, 20 October. No site count. |
| Street, separate | Average $257.49. Low $70. High $800. | One-year poll. Not this pair. |
| House bull, base, bear | $178.37, $142.44, $122.60 | Ten sessions. Year-end bull not used. |
The transcript also puts first-quarter 2027 revenue at $33 billion to $37 billion. That sentence was not a Friday event, and it is not an input to $178.37. The 9 October spectrum note stays live at the $160.57 writeup. This article does not retell that agreement as a new filing.
What was said, and what was declined
Shotwell’s user line is the one above. Asked later how satellite and ground pieces would share a US network, she said “the vast majority of mobile connectivity is actually Wi-Fi” and put the share at “something between 85% and 93%.” She said the low-band piece is “the 800 MHz spectrum to basically penetrate buildings” when the phone is not on Wi-Fi, and that she expected S-band to carry the majority of the rest. That is a mix statement. It is not a lease for 80,000 sites.
Musk’s line in the same transcript is: “And we will be building out our terrestrial network so that there’s broad-based connectivity anywhere that SpaceX and Starlink are allowed to operate.” Yahoo’s Bloomberg text adds that spectrum and launches “will pave the way for Starlink Mobile to become a major mobile carrier in the US.” The new part on Thursday evening was the site count and the landlord names, attributed to people who were not identified.
Chris Hillabrant, Crown Castle’s chief executive, on Wednesday’s call, as quoted by Bloomberg via Yahoo: “You can assume that we’re talking to all parties.” He declined to discuss specific customers. The same page quotes him calling the low-band purchase a “huge milestone.” The question put to him included Amazon. “All parties” is not a SpaceX term sheet. American Tower declined to comment. SpaceX did not immediately respond.
John Stankey, AT&T’s chief executive, on Wednesday’s AT&T call, as reported by DNYUZ on 21 October: “I wouldn’t over-rotate on what I would call one carrier of low band spectrum.” He also said “I think LEO constellations are fantastic for delivering bandwidth to rural areas.” Wednesday was before the cell-site headline. His caution was about spectrum, not about a term sheet that had not been reported.
Gordon F. Snyder Jr., an engineering professor at Holyoke Community College, posted on Friday: “A satellite link has about 50 dB more path loss than a cell site 1 km away, so sites still matter.” The status is the source. It is not a price and not a signed lease.
Spectrum, towers, and a service date in 2028
The order of operations is the financing tension. Shotwell’s service date is early 2028. TeslaNorth reported an 8 October agreement to buy up to 14 MHz of paired 800 MHz spectrum, expected to close in the first half of 2027 if regulators approve. The FCC approval for 15,000 mobile V2 satellites is already in the 20 October remarks. A tower lease, if one is signed, sits between a spectrum closing that is still ahead and a service date that is not this year. None of those dates falls inside the ten sessions that end on 6 November.
Bloomberg says the deals could reach into the billions, and that home internet gear emits mobile signals where subscribers already are. MoffettNathanson, cited there, notes those spots are not necessarily where a network needs coverage. “Into the billions” is not a capex line. The call’s spending talk was compute, Starship and satellites.
Bull, base, and bear
The title numbers are this distribution, not a broker target and not the year-end pair. The spot is Friday’s $147.49. The last 90 daily log-returns run from the 16 June close through 23 October. Mu is -0.0034835192. Sigma is 0.0474219710. The square root of 10 is 3.16227766. Ten times mu is -0.034835192. Sigma times that square root is 0.14996144. One and a half times that is 0.22494216.
Base is the spot times e to the power of ten times mu. That power is about 0.96576, and 0.96576 times $147.49 is $142.4406, which rounds half up to $142.44, down $5.05, or 3.42 percent. Bull adds 0.22494216. The exponent is 0.19010697. On $147.49 that is $178.3713, which rounds to $178.37, up $30.88, or 20.94 percent. Bear subtracts 0.14996144. The exponent is -0.18479663. On $147.49 that is $122.6045, which rounds to $122.60, down $24.89, or 16.88 percent. The bull stays above the spot, so the negative drift is kept. This is not financial advice.
The 47-session path was rejected. Forty-seven times mu is -0.16372540. The year-end base rounds to $125.22, down $22.27, or 15.10 percent. The bull rounds to $203.91, up $56.42, or 38.25 percent. The bear rounds to $90.46. The published bull of $203 is $0.91 away. A bull within $1 of that figure is a collision even though $90.46 is not the bear printed next to it. The title uses ten sessions: 26 to 30 October, then 2 to 6 November, ending Friday 6 November. $178.37 is $24.63 from the published $203 bull.
| Case | Price | Versus the $147.49 spot | What has to be true |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bull | $178.37 | Up $30.88, or 20.94 percent | The drift continues and 6 November finishes 1.5 standard deviations above it. No lease is required. |
| Base | $142.44 | Down $5.05, or 3.42 percent | Only the mean continues for ten sessions. The cell-site report is not an input. |
| Bear | $122.60 | Down $24.89, or 16.88 percent | The same drift minus one standard deviation, through the 6 November close. |
| Rejected year-end | $203.91, $125.22, $90.46 | Bull up 38.25 percent | Forty-seven sessions through 31 December. Not used. The bull collides with $203. |
$178.37, $142.44 and $122.60 are that arithmetic, not the one-year marks. Eric Sheridan at Goldman Sachs reiterated $245 on 22 October, from $230. Ronald Epstein at Bank of America reiterated $275 that day, from $235. Glenn Thum at Phillip Securities raised his to $250, from $75. Those three, and the $257.49 average, are on the ratings page. None of them is this bull.
What happens next
Friday 6 November 2026 is the tenth session. The bull of $178.37 is 1.5 standard deviations above the drift. The base of $142.44 is the drift alone. The bear of $122.60 is one standard deviation under it. A company release that names a site count would be a new fact. It would not replace $147.49 until a later official close does.
The nearer test is the 20-day average, not the 80,000 figure. The close is $7.53 under $155.02. Closes back through that average, and then through the 50-day average of $149.24, would say the negative mean had stopped. A close under Friday’s $144.085 low, then Thursday’s $143.21 low, would say that break was still the path.
Early 2028 remains the service date on the call, and the spectrum window TeslaNorth reported is the first half of 2027. Both sit after 6 November. The year-end bull of $203.91 was computed and set aside. The next official close is what resets mu, sigma and N.
Frequently asked questions
After Friday’s cell-site report, where do the sessions through 31 December 2026 put a fresh SpaceX bull and bear?
They do not go in the title. The 47-session bull is $203.91, within $1 of a published $203 bull, so the fresh pair is ten sessions through 6 November: bull $178.37, base $142.44, bear $122.60, from the $147.49 Nasdaq close on 23 October. The unused year-end base is $125.22 and the bear is $90.46. The cell-site count is not an input to either path.
Did Friday’s 1.89 percent gain price an 80,000-site deal?
No. Friday’s $147.49 recovered $2.74 of Thursday’s $14.56 drop, and the Bloomberg timestamp is after Thursday’s cash close. The report says the talks are private, Crown Castle was named, and SpaceX did not immediately respond. The 20 October transcript has 22 million users and an early 2028 service date. It does not have a site count. A gain of 1.89 percent is the official move. It is not a signature.
Are the $178.37 bull and the $122.60 bear Street targets?
No. They are the ten-session distribution above, with a base of $142.44. StockAnalysis showed a $257.49 average, a $70 low and an $800 high as of 25 October, on 38 analysts. Sheridan was at $245, Epstein at $275 and Thum at $250 on 22 October. Those are one-year marks. The rejected year-end bull of $203.91 is also not a street target. It was dropped because it collides with $203.
What did Gwynne Shotwell say about Starlink Mobile on 20 October?
She said the company had surpassed 22 million monthly users as of the end of the quarter, up 37 percent. The priority she named was flying the mobile V2 constellation through next year and turning service on in early 2028, after the spectrum purchases. She later put Wi-Fi at 85 percent to 93 percent of mobile connectivity and said 800 MHz spectrum is what penetrates buildings. She did not state an 80,000-site figure.
Did Crown Castle confirm a lease with SpaceX?
No. Chris Hillabrant, its chief executive, said “You can assume that we’re talking to all parties,” and declined to discuss specific customers, as quoted by Bloomberg via Yahoo from Wednesday’s call. The question put to him included Amazon and other satellite providers, not SpaceX alone. American Tower declined to comment. SpaceX did not immediately respond. Friday’s 9.06 percent Crown Castle gain is the tape, not a confirmation.
What would make the $142.44 base the wrong price by 6 November?
A break in the drift. The base only compounds the recent mean for ten sessions. Closes back above the 50-day average of $149.24, then the 20-day average of $155.02, would mean that mean had stopped. A named contract would be a new fact, and it would still not make $178.37 a promise or $257.49 the house number. The next official close is what replaces Friday’s $147.49 in the formula.
