Polymarket has launched 15-minute Bitcoin price markets on its U.S. app, bringing one of the prediction platform’s shortest-duration crypto products to American users as it expands its regulated domestic offering. The contracts allow users to take positions on whether the price of Bitcoin will be higher or lower at the end of a 15-minute interval compared with the price at the beginning of that window.
A new market can therefore resolve four times per hour, giving Polymarket a product that behaves more like short-duration trading than the political, economic and sporting event markets for which prediction platforms are traditionally known. The rollout is particularly significant because it is taking place through Polymarket US, the company’s federally regulated American operation, rather than simply making its offshore crypto markets available to U.S. customers. Polymarket returned to the American market after acquiring QCX, a Commodity Futures Trading Commission-regulated derivatives exchange and clearinghouse, for $112 million in 2025. QCX subsequently became the regulatory foundation for Polymarket’s U.S. business.
Prediction Markets Move Closer to Crypto Trading
Fifteen-minute Bitcoin contracts represent a different use case from conventional prediction markets. Instead of asking users to estimate the outcome of an election or economic event weeks or months in advance, the product repeatedly creates binary exposure to very short-term Bitcoin price movements. A trader buying the “Up” outcome is effectively predicting that Bitcoin will finish the specified window above its starting reference price, while the opposing position reflects the expectation that it will finish lower. Prices on binary event contracts can generally be interpreted as market-implied probabilities, moving toward $1 for the eventual winning outcome and $0 for the losing side at settlement. The format is already familiar to users of Polymarket’s broader crypto platform, where short-duration Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency markets have generated substantial trading activity.
Bringing the structure to the U.S. app potentially opens it to a much larger regulated retail audience. It also places Polymarket more directly alongside crypto derivatives and trading venues competing for users interested in short-term price movements, even though event contracts have a different legal and market structure from conventional perpetual futures or spot cryptocurrency trading.
US Expansion Accelerates
Polymarket’s U.S. return represents a major reversal from its position several years ago. In January 2022, the company agreed to pay a $1.4 million civil monetary penalty to the CFTC and wind down markets that did not comply with U.S. commodities law after regulators found it had offered off-exchange event-based binary options. Its subsequent acquisition of QCX provided a route back through regulated infrastructure. Polymarket US now operates through a CFTC-designated contract market, meaning its American products sit within the federal derivatives regulatory framework rather than the offshore structure used by Polymarket’s international platform.
The 15-minute Bitcoin launch also comes as competition in U.S. prediction markets intensifies. Kalshi has expanded aggressively across politics, economics, sports and other event categories, while conventional brokerage and crypto companies have increasingly explored prediction-market products and integrations. Ultra-short-duration cryptocurrency markets could broaden that competition further by targeting trading activity that historically flowed toward centralized crypto exchanges and perpetual-futures platforms.
The format may also attract regulatory attention because frequent binary contracts based on asset prices can resemble other short-term speculative financial products economically, even where their legal classification differs. For Polymarket, however, the launch demonstrates how far its U.S. strategy has expanded beyond long-duration event forecasting. A Bitcoin contract that expires every 15 minutes transforms the platform into a venue where users can continuously express short-term market views. That pushes prediction markets closer to the territory traditionally occupied by crypto trading platforms — while Polymarket attempts to do so in the U.S. through its federally regulated derivatives infrastructure.
