Updated 1 November 2026. AMD closed Friday 30 October at $504.80, down 10.88 percent from $566.42, on 39.7 million shares, roughly double the volume of the four sessions before it; the intraday low was $492.21 (StockAnalysis). There was no AMD-specific news: Intel’s PC warning pulled the whole chip sector lower. AMD reports third-quarter results on Tuesday 3 November after the close, guiding to revenue of about $13.0 billion. Options price a move of roughly 8-9 percent either way. Verdict: the stock now goes into the print about $60 cheaper with the PC question already asked; the client guide decides whether Friday was an overreaction. Reference levels: $455 below, $560 above.
Key facts
- Price: AMD closed at $504.80 on 30 October after a $492.21-$520.40 range; it had closed at $566.42 on Thursday and $578.44 on Wednesday (StockAnalysis).
- Results date: Tuesday 3 November after the market close, with a conference call at 5 pm ET (AMD).
- AMD’s own guide: third-quarter revenue of about $13.0 billion, plus or minus $300 million, up roughly 41 percent on the year and 13 percent on the quarter, with a non-GAAP gross margin of about 56 percent (AMD second-quarter results, 4 August).
- Consensus: revenue of about $13.09 billion, just above the guide midpoint. Earnings estimates differ by provider: FX Leaders cites $1.95 a share, Google Finance about $1.94, and CME Elite Group cites about $1.68 from Zacks. Check which basis a headline uses before comparing it to the result.
- Last quarter: revenue rose 50 percent to a record $11.5 billion, Data Center revenue more than doubled to $6.7 billion, and non-GAAP EPS was $1.66 (AMD 8-K). Client revenue rose 23 percent to $3.1 billion, about 27 percent of sales (FX Leaders).
- Implied move: EarningsWatcher put the options-implied move at plus or minus 8.8 percent as of 30 October, below AMD’s ten-year average of 10.6 percent; OptionsLam showed about 8.4 percent for the weekly expiry. Longer-dated options show more because they cover more than the earnings day.
- Analysts: 30 Buy and six Hold ratings with an average target of $664.31 (FX Leaders). Susquehanna’s Christopher Rolland raised his target to $650 from $620 and kept a Buy, expecting data center-led results with some margin pressure (FX Leaders).
Why AMD fell 11 percent on Intel’s numbers
Intel guided its fourth-quarter revenue to $15-$16 billion on Thursday night and said client computing would fall more than 20 percent sequentially. CFO David Zinsner said he sees the PC slowdown continuing at least through the first half of next year, and Intel blamed high memory prices (see our Intel week-ahead page). AMD sells PC processors against Intel, so the market priced the same slowdown into AMD’s client business before AMD had said a word. The editorial team’s report on Friday’s selloff covers the session itself.
The read-through is not one-way. Intel also said substrate shortages limited its server shipments and that wafer and substrate constraints will last into the first half of 2027. Every server processor Intel cannot ship is a sale AMD can try to win, and Data Center is now AMD’s largest segment, more than twice the size of Client last quarter.
What Tuesday’s results have to answer
1. The client guide. This is the direct test of Intel’s warning. A fourth-quarter client outlook that holds up better than Intel’s would mean Intel lost share as well as volume; one that matches Intel’s would confirm a market-wide slowdown.
2. Data Center and the MI450 ramp. AMD’s Helios rack-scale system, built on MI450 chips, began production shipments in September, and Susquehanna expects a larger ramp in the fourth quarter and the first half of 2027 (FX Leaders). FX Leaders lists announced commitments from OpenAI for 6 gigawatts, Meta for up to 6 gigawatts and Anthropic for up to 2 gigawatts. The fourth-quarter guide will show how much of that lands this year.
3. Gross margin. CFO Jean Hu has said AI chip margins sit slightly below the corporate average during the ramp (FX Leaders). A margin guide below the 56 percent AMD is guiding for the third quarter would be the price of faster AI growth, and the market will decide on Tuesday whether it is willing to pay it.
How AMD has traded on recent results
The last three reports moved the stock further than options priced twice. In August the stock fell 7.0 percent against a priced move of 8.0 percent; in May it rose 18.6 percent against 8.8 percent; in February it fell 17.3 percent against 8.2 percent (EarningsWatcher). Over 17 reports with a recorded implied move, the peak move beat what options priced 11 times (EarningsWatcher). Memory makers are part of the same story: see our Micron week-ahead page.
AMD into results: bull, base and bear
| Scenario | AMD | What has to happen | Anchor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bear | $455 | The client guide confirms Intel’s PC slowdown, the MI450 ramp slips into 2027 and the margin guide drops below 56 percent. | About 9.9 percent below Friday’s $504.80 close, just outside the options-implied range. |
| Base | $480-$540 | Revenue lands near the $13.09 billion consensus, client softens but less than at Intel, and Data Center carries the guide. | Inside the roughly 8-9 percent implied move. |
| Bull | $560 | Data Center and Helios beat, the client guide holds up better than Intel’s, and the market treats Friday’s drop as Intel’s problem rather than AMD’s. | About 10.9 percent above Friday’s close, near Thursday’s $566.42 close. |
The bear case sits below Friday’s close. Analyst targets, all above the current price, are listed separately above. These are reference levels measured from the verified close, not forecasts.
What to watch
- $492.21: Friday’s intraday low. A close below it before Tuesday would show the selling has not finished.
- Monday’s session: the first trading day after the Intel shock, and the last full one before the print.
- The fourth-quarter revenue guide against the roughly 41 percent growth AMD guided for the third quarter.
- Any update on Helios shipments and the timing of the OpenAI deployment.
Quick take: AMD closed at $504.80 on Friday, down 10.88 percent on Intel’s PC warning, not on its own news. It reports on Tuesday 3 November against a $13.0 billion guide and a consensus near $13.09 billion, with options pricing a move of about 8-9 percent. Expect $480-$540; $455 needs the client guide to echo Intel’s, $560 needs Data Center to carry the quarter and Friday to look like Intel’s problem.

Why did AMD stock fall on 30 October?
Intel guided fourth-quarter revenue well below expectations and warned of a PC slowdown lasting at least through the first half of 2027. AMD competes with Intel in PC processors and fell 10.88 percent to $504.80 in the selloff that followed.
What revenue is AMD expected to report?
AMD guided to about $13.0 billion, plus or minus $300 million. The consensus estimate is about $13.09 billion.
