With aviation already an often prohibitively costly industry for individual players without major backing, several smaller and charter carriers did not survive the spike in jet fuel prices that came at the start of 2026 following the U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran.
Major recent news in this space includes the collapse of Spirit Airlines and the bankruptcy filing of Latvian flag carrier AirBaltic while smaller carriers that shut down in 2026 include Mexican holiday airline Magnicharters, Finnish charter airline Jetflite and, most recently in September 2026, French charter carrier AirAiles.
Over in Colorado, charter broker and indirect air carrier OneWorld International is reportedly pausing all flights for 30 days as a long string of financial problems catches up with it.
OneFlight charter airline company cancels all flights for 30 days
The company does not own any aircraft but functions as a broker organizing chartered flights by private jet and jet card subscriptions.
A jet card is a membership in which customers book flight hours on a private plane at fixed rates. Along with fractional ownership, it is one of two main ways that passengers who fly private book their flights.

As first reported by Private Jet Card Comparisons, a vice president sent OneFllight’s private jet customers an email stating that the company was “actively addressing the financial and operations issues that developed under the previous CFO’s leadership and is taking the necessary steps to strengthen OneFlight’s financial position and long-term stability.”
In August 2026, customers had previously received another email saying that they would need to pay a 35% “economic surcharge” due to “extraordinary economic pressures currently affecting private aviation.”
This fee was later pulled back among multiple complaints but multiple charter operators running the flights said OneFlight was behind on payments, in some cases by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Other creditors, meanwhile, said that they have not had lapses and got paid as recently as August 2026.

What is happening with OneFlight International
The company reported $232 million in revenue last year while the baseline deposit for customers looking to buy jet cards starts at $100,000. It is not immediately clear what will happen to customers who have jet cards with unused flight hours once the currently-announced monthlong pause is over.

OneFlight could not be immediately reached for comment. In a bankruptcy or other economic collapse, customers who prepaid for flights are considered unsecured creditors who are the last who can expect to receive some compensation through a court process.
The value of flights booked through jet cards for the coming months is estimated to be approximately $150 million.
OneFlight representatives could not be immediately reached to comment its situation or clarify the reporting.
Charter and commercial airlines that shut down or filed for bankruptcy in 2026:
- Spirit Airlines: The largest airline shutdown of the year occurred when Spirit Airlines canceled all remaining flights on May 2. Although the airline had filed for Chapter 11 protection twice before, the skyrocketing price of jet fuel dealt the final blow.
- Magnicharters: The Mexican low-cost airline canceled all flights and eventually filed for bankruptcy protection in May 2026 amid mounting financial pressures.
- Starflite Aviation: The Houston-based carrier had its AOC license revoked in March 2026, amid FAA claims that owners falsified pilot training records to bypass safety audits.
- AlpAvia: The Slovenian charter airline shut down in March 2026 due to a string of financial problems.
